Dining Table Sets in Pakistan: How to Choose the Right Size, Shape and Seating

Home Furniture Blogs Dining Table Sets in Pakistan: How to Choose the Right Size, Shape and Seating

Dining table sets in Pakistan come in dozens of sizes, shapes and materials, and the wrong choice is easy to make: a table that blocks the room, chairs that can’t pull out, or a set that is too small once guests arrive. This guide shows you how to choose the right dining table for your family, step by step, with simple room-size numbers you can check before you buy.

What size dining table do I need?

Plan for about 60 cm (2 feet) of table edge per person, and leave about 90 cm (3 feet) of clear space around the table. A 4 seater suits a small dining area, a 6 seater suits most family homes, and an 8 seater needs a dedicated dining room or a large open lounge.

Quick size guide

These are typical ranges. Always check the exact size listed for the product you choose.

Seating

Typical rectangular table size

Minimum room size with 90 cm clearance

4 seater

about 120 x 80 cm (4 x 2.5 ft)

about 300 x 260 cm (10 x 8.5 ft)

6 seater

about 180 x 90 cm (6 x 3 ft)

about 360 x 270 cm (12 x 9 ft)

8 seater

about 220 x 95 cm (7.5 x 3 ft)

about 400 x 275 cm (13 x 9 ft)

Round tables follow a similar rule: roughly 100 to 120 cm across for 4 people and 135 to 150 cm for 6. For example, the Trendy Dining Set table measures 72 x 40 inches (about 183 x 102 cm), so plan for a room of roughly 365 x 285 cm (12 x 9.5 ft).

Step 1: Measure the room first

  1. Measure the length and width of the space where the table will go.
  2. Subtract 90 cm from each side for chairs and walking room. What remains is the largest table you can fit.
  3. Check doors, corridors and lifts the table must pass through, especially if it is a large solid wood set.
  4. Note where windows, AC units, switches and doors open, so nothing is blocked.

If the room is an unusual shape, you don’t have to settle for a standard size. Homefactree can build custom dining tables to your measurements.

Step 2: Choose a shape

  • Rectangular: the most common shape. It suits long, narrow dining areas and seats the most people for the space.
  • Round: good for small, square rooms, because it has no corners and makes it easy to talk across the table. It seats fewer people than a rectangle of the same footprint.
  • Extendable: best if you host often. The table stays compact day to day and extends for guests, which is useful for Eid, family gatherings and dinners.

Step 3: Pick the material

Material

Good for

Keep in mind

Solid wood (such as sheesham)

Long life, strength, a premium feel

Heavier and usually costs more. Protect from heat and water rings

Engineered wood or MDF

Lower budgets, lighter weight

Less durable and not as easy to repair

Glass top

A lighter look in small rooms

Shows fingerprints and can chip

Marble or marble-look top

A luxury look, such as the faux marble top on our Marble Dining Set

Real stone is heavy and can stain without sealing. Marble-look tops are lighter, so check the top material and finish

For everyday family use, solid wood is usually the safest long-term choice. Many sets, such as the Trendy Dining Set, pair a solid Sheesham frame with a veneered MDF top, so always check which parts are solid. Browse the dining collection to compare styles.

Step 4: Don’t forget the chairs

The table is only half of the set. Check these on the chairs:

  • Seat height: about 25 to 30 cm below the tabletop is comfortable for most people.
  • Fabric: wipeable or easy-to-clean fabrics suit families with children. Our guide to choosing the right sofa fabric explains the options, and the same ideas apply to dining chairs.
  • Armchairs vs plain chairs: armchairs need more space. Use them at the ends and plain chairs along the sides.
  • Pull-out space: chairs need about 60 cm to move comfortably.

Common dining table mistakes to avoid

  • Buying a table without measuring the room, and then finding the chairs can’t be pulled out
  • Choosing a table that is too big for the doorway or lift
  • Picking only on looks without checking the frame, joints and finish
  • Forgetting how many people you host a few times a year, such as for Eid or family dinners
  • Skipping the chair test: sit in one for at least a few minutes

Frequently asked questions

How many people does a 6 seater dining table seat?

A 6 seater seats six people comfortably, and eight if you squeeze in at the ends. Plan for about 60 cm of table edge per person.

What size dining table is best for a small room?

A 4 seater rectangular table or a round table about 100 to 120 cm across suits a small dining area. Leave about 90 cm around it for chairs and walking.

Is a round or a rectangular dining table better?

Round tables suit small, square rooms and conversation. Rectangular tables seat more people in long rooms. Extendable tables suit homes that host often.

How much space do I need around a dining table?

About 90 cm (3 feet) on every side is comfortable. In a tight room you can go down to about 75 cm, but chairs will be harder to pull out.

Is a solid wood dining table worth it?

For daily family use, yes. Solid wood is stronger, lasts longer and can be repaired and polished, though it costs more than engineered wood.

Can I order a dining table made to my room size?

Yes. Homefactree can build tables to your measurements, with your choice of finish and fabric for the chairs. Send your measurements on WhatsApp or book an appointment to begin.
